After 16 years in the business, you might be surprised to learn that Chris Collin’s debut into the yachting industry was anything but planned.
“I didn’t set out with the idea to work in the industry,” he said. “I had always enjoyed being on the water and simply wanted to venture out and see what the world was like before settling down.”
After leaving his native South Africa, Chris began by working on yachts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He loved it so much that continued work in the industry soon became the obvious career choice.
Chris has since garnered extensive experience as a Captain, sailing to various locations on both the East and West Coast of the USA, Europe, and throughout the Caribbean and Bahamas. Chris is a licensed Captain / Master through the MCA. Chris took that experience and additionally honed his business skills, working as a Yacht Manager, Director of Operations, in Charter, and now Brokerage. Most recently, his love of Yachting and knowledge of the many nuances of the Yachting industry led Chris to develop SoFloYachting.com
“South Florida is unique in that it is a great home base. You can be in the Bahamas in 2 hours by boat and even less by plane. Not too far beyond that are The Turks & Caicos, The Virgin Islands, St. Barts, St. Maarten and the ABC’s, all easily accessible by boat, yacht, or airline.”
Chris hopes the blog will be a useful source of information to those in the industry, covering everything from current/future sales, to developments in South Florida and current events.
In his free time, Chris enjoys his personal center console boat, fishing, cruising around Ft. Lauderdale with family, friends, and traveling. His passion for Yachting continues to grow, and he hopes to encourage others to experience all that the Yachting industry has to offer. “I love learning about different countries and people, where they cruise and what they enjoy. Yachting is an amazing way to experience the world.”
